A friend gave me a link to a post made on craigslist… and it touched me in all those places were little pockets of fear, hate and anger about being gay live deep inside of me. I’m not ashamed of who or what I am, and like most of us, I’ve had to deal with my own share of bigoted attitudes, thoughtless and/or deliberate comments and actions from those we come into contact with on a daily basis. I had that growing up time of thinking “I was the only one” that wanted the house, picket fence and 2.5 kids — but with a partner of the same sex. I’ve also endured the pain and suffering of being a victim of gay hate crimes, and have had to deal with bedridden lovers and hospitals that just “didn’t get it”.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine Lance Bass, the former ‘N Sync heartthrob, reveals that he is gay.

“I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys’ careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything,” says Bass.
“I didn’t know: Could that be the end of ’N Sync? So I had that weight on me of like, ‘Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it’s bad.’ So I just never did,” he says speaking about his sexual orientation for the first time with PEOPLE.
The full Q&A session in PEOPLE Magazine with Lance Bass will hit the newstands this Friday.
